Frequently Asked Questions
Why Should I Buy Census Records On Microfilm?
Savings! While you could hire a professional to search the
microfilm records for you. Why not do it yourself and pocket
the savings?
How Do I Find Out Which Microfilm Roll To Order?
The quickest way to find the microfilm rolls you need are
by searching our online catalog, first by state, then year
and then by county or large city covering the area you are
interested in.
If the family you are researching was counted in either the
1880, 1900, 1910, or 1920 census, a Soundex Search would
be a good place to start to look for them. If you need a
search done for the other census years 1790-1870, check
out our Census Index Search.
Is The Printed Copy Of The 1790 U.S. Federal
Census Available On Microfilm From C.M.E.?
Yes. The printed 1790 census as published by the Bureau of
the Census in 1907 is available for purchase by ordering
Series T498 Rolls 1, 2 and 3. On the end of roll 3 you'll
also find the 1840 Census of Pensioners for Revolutionary
or Military Service.
Why Don't You List A Regular 1890 Federal Census?
Unfortunately, the 1890 U.S. Federal census was badly damaged
by a fire in the Commerce Department Building in January 1921.
The few schedules that survived the fire have been microfilmed
and are available by ordering Series M407 Rolls 1, 2 and 3.
An index to the names appearing on the few surviving fragments
is also available. Order Series M496 Rolls 1 and 2.
How Long Do I Have To Wait For Delivery Of My Order?
Not very long! Most orders are processed and shipped within
5 working days.
Do You Provide Any Discounts For Large Orders?
Other microfilm companies routinely provide 10% and 15%
discounts to their customers. However, we are already
substantially cheaper than our closest competitor. We
prefer to treat all our customers equally by lowering the
"admittance" price for all, not just a chosen few.
One company we know of provides a discount of 5% if you'll
spend $5,000.00 and 10% if you'll spend $10,000.00. How
generous! Giving you back what you shouldn't have to
spend anyway. By the way, it's still going to end up costing
you more than twice as much. Which would you rather have?
Half your money back or twice the number of films.
The choice is yours . . . if you'll buy from us.
Can I Buy A Catalog For Use At Home?
Yes, it's available in CD-ROM, Floppy Disk (Windows), and
Bound Paper formats for $15.00 (shipping included).
Do You Offer Any State Census Records For Sale?
Not yet, but we are working on it. Look for some state census
records to become available later this year. By the way, you
can influence what we make available by letting us know what
you would like to buy.
Do You Sell Microfilm TakeUp Spools Or Boxes?
The spools are $1.00 each with a microfilm order. Boxes are
50 cents each (again with a microfilm order).
How Can You Afford To Sell At Such A Low Price?
Frankly, we keep our overhead extremely low. You won't find any
"fat cat" executives here. The President of our company works
along side the rest of us on a daily basis. And unlike other
companies, he doesn't pull down a six figure income on a yearly
basis. He is a professional genealogist who decided that historic
microfilms shouldn't have to cost so much.
In addition, our Guarantee-Return Policy demands that we sell
only the highest quality duplicates.
