What Is Digital Microfilm +?
Digital Microfilm Plus is the highest quality digital microfilm
you can buy!
C.M.E. is now selling the U.S. Federal Census records on
DVD! While other companies have chosen to scan these important
records at a low 100 dpi (dots per inch) resolution. C.M.E.
is currently scanning its microfilm collection at over 300 dpi.
That's more than 9
times their image quality!
What does this mean for you? Simply put, you won't be able to
buy higher quality digital census images than those produced by C.M.E.!
Some would argue that high resolution scans are unnecessary.
But they are looking at current technology. What happens when
computer monitors get larger and their ability to display
extremely fine detail at high resolution improves! Which they will.
"Oh, when that happens we'll just sell
the unwitting public
our new higher resolution images."
Talk about planned obsolescence!
What's Wrong With Your Current Digital Images?
Some companies feel "low-resolution" images look fine. Oh yeah,
well what happens if you need to zoom in on a name in order to
read it? It can break up in to a mass of unrecognizable dots.
Making you wonder what happened to the name?
These same companies also make certain you only see their very
best images before you buy. They do this to make you think the
images look fine. And admittedly, some images look "okay" at the
lower resolution. But just wait until you encounter really bad
images such as those found on the 1880 Federal census records.
Some are virtually unreadable. You will end up having to refer
to a microfilm copy in order to read it.
To make matters worse, several of our competitors have made
the mistake of scanning from third, and in some cases, fourth
generation microfilm!
C.M.E. uses only 1st Generation
Silver Master Microfilm direct from the
National Archives!
A first generation Silver Master copy can only be produced by
the National Archives from their originals. Just like a
photocopy, every time you make a "copy of a copy"
you lose resolution and therefore image quality. Eventually, it
can get so bad you can no longer read it. U.S. Federal census
records should never be digitally scanned from 3rd or 4th
generation microfilms!
One of CME's competitors even borrowed a library's collection
to produce their images. Never realizing how badly scratched
and used the collection was. Public and rental library copies
should never be used for scanning purposes. Have you noticed
a lot of scratches on your digital images? Now you know why.
C.M.E.'s master microfilm collection
has never been used by the public! Because of this, our films
are in pristine condition. And our digital images are simply
the best you can buy!
